GIS Search and Retrieval Tool

The provision to our client of a GIS tool that would allow users to search and retrieve data from a series of corporate data repositories

Background

A period of rapid growth meant that our client was becoming increasingly dependent on easy access to corporate data. Venture were requested to deliver a tool that allowed the user to search for data in a geographical window. The data was disrupted in several different databases, this included:

• Well and seismic navigation data in Finder
• Scanned documents on a Windows NT file share
• Well data in OpenWorks
• Indexed hardcopy data.

Stages in the delivery included:

• Quality check and assigning of unique identifiers in each data repository
• Development of GIS project
• Creation of processes to maintain tool.

Outcome

The project achieved its objectives and provided:

• A GIS tool allowing users to search all corporate data stores
• Well master lists of all wells (including UWI, Well name and Short name)
• Single Access database containing index of all hardcopy data
• Training for all users on the use of the GIS tool.
