Senior Information Controller for Projects

Responsibilities

  • Implement, operate and steward the processes, procedures, numbering/identification schemes and information systems defined for collection, validation, sharing and delivery to the Client/Operator of all required Engineering Information 
  • Ensure all project and associated personnel are familiar with, have access to and are supported in their use of defined processes and systems for information control and access.
  • Maintain and manage access controls
  • Supervise an Information Control Team (coordinating with Contractors, service suppliers, equipment vendors etc) for the timely, accurate and complete collection of defined Engineering Information 
  • Provide complete services, and points of contact, for the management of controlled information (CAD models, Data and Documents) to specified standards, including:
    • Secure storage of both physical and electronic items, with controls audit trails maintained
    • Transmittal management (for incoming and outgoing documents and datasets, as required) 
    • Ensuring confidence that information provided is the latest and of known provenance
  • Promote the use of electronic engineering datasets, electronic drawings and documents and electronic review processes wherever practical
  • Promote collaboration, through electronic information sharing, between the companies concerned and the technical disciplines involved, regardless of geographical distribution
  • Monitor and pursue the Project's compliance with processes, procedures, schedules, specifications, formats, numbering/identification schemes etc by all parties 
  • Escalate significant/persistent problems of compliance to the Information Management Team Lead for resolution
  • Support the Client/Operator's staff in receipt, validation and formal handover/acceptance of the required information elements at scheduled times
  • Liaise with IS and IT service providers to ensure satisfactory functionality, performance and availability of suitable services 
  • Maintain metrics to monitor operations, process efficiency, information quality and the impact of collaboration activities; identify and realise improvements where practicable
  • Responsibilities include close liaison with the client's Engineering and Operations staff and Contractors representatives to ensure that all Engineering Information requirements are delivered according to schedules, specifications and quality criteria, in addition to the day-to-day management of a team of, typically, 5-10 data and document controllers. The scope of Engineering Information covered includes all physical and electronic engineering documents and drawings, digital datasets and 2-D/3-D CAD models where applicable. The Senior Information Controller and IM Team Lead may act for each other in periods of absence.

 

Person / Experience Required

  • Broad knowledge of oil and gas project engineering processes (including design, procurement and contracts, fabrication, installation and completion)
  • Understanding of the capabilities of IM in the industry, and ability to monitor, assess and promote improvements at the right time
  • Team leading ability
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

 

Key Skills Required

  • Good knowledge of all aspects of Information Management in the oil and gas engineering project environment (including management of data, documents, drawings, CAD models etc)
  • Knowledge of an engineering data management environment such as Intergraph SmartPlant Foundation, Bentley eWarehouse or AVEVA PDMS
  • Ability to support clients in becoming progressively more Data-centric, cross-referencing CAD models and documents/drawings.

 

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level (BSc or MSc), in either an engineering or information management discipline
  • Extensive experience in roles involved in managing engineering information, substantially in Oil and Gas development project environments
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar previous role.
