Expertise was supplied to upgrade GeoFrame 3.8 projects to 4.0.3. This involved the creation of upgrade process documentation, testing, troubleshooting, pre-upgrade project clean-up, creation of user defined datums, post migration clean-up and QA
Background
Our client decided to upgrade all live projects to GeoFrame 4.0.3 from GeoFrame 3.8 following its decision to implement a Portal with access to subsurface data held within GeoFrame and Vendor advice that this process would be aided by using the most recent version of GeoFrame.
A number of the GeoFrame projects involved were old, having been created in GeoFrame 2.5, presenting problems with data integrity. There were also projects of very large size (> 500,000 Data Items) that required special pre-upgrade clean-up treatment.
In the past some GeoFrame projects had also been created with incorrect Project and Storage projections and datums. Some of these projects had also had their default projection set up changed after data had been loaded, leading to location errors. The decision was taken to correct these projects prior to the upgrade, using SQL scripts and procedures written by Venture.
Outcome
Live GeoFrame projects have been upgraded to 4.0.3 and historic data issues have been removed. A detailed GeoFrame project upgrade process has been established for the client.
