E&P Well Data Mapping and Migration to Livelink

Having previously been managed within their offices in Canada, management of our client’s Nigeria asset was being relocated to their UK office. This relocation included the transfer of approximately 27,000 files of legacy well data (totally 119Gb). This was required to be mapped and migrated (with application of appropriate metadata standards) from their legacy server folder structures to the corporate well data structure within their UK Livelink ECM system. It was essential to ensure all relevant content were accurately captured and mapped to the appropriate Livelink folder, with correct metadata and taxonomies implemented, and made accessible to the asset team quickly.

Using newly developed utilities within our V-KIT application for EDMS file scanning, analysis and migration, Venture were quickly able to scan the current data set and analyse the current (legacy) folder structure and any associated metadata.

An automated set of business rules were agreed, created and applied which identified the small volume of content not to be migrated, and then facilitated the mapping of relevant data files to the Livelink well folder template standard. Load sheets were then created to manage the loading of content, and comprehensive post-migration QA, analysis and test cases prepared and run to both check and verify the successful creation of new well folders and correct and accurate load of content.

The migration process helped facilitate fast, effective and efficient document management for the legacy Nigerian data, providing the newly relocated asset with rapid access to large volumes of previously unavailable well reports, logs and associated content.

Use of Venture’s V-KIT in assuring alignment to required well folder standards and taxonomies has supported our client’s effective data collaboration, both within the Nigeria exploration asset and between their counterparts across the organisation.
