As our clients portfolio of North Sea business unit assets has built over a number of years, the information management systems those assets use to operate varies greatly. Some represent the clients chosen system at the time of transition to operate, some the chosen system of the engineering project contractor.

One such asset had been very successfully using an electronic data & document management system for a number of years, but vendor upgrading had rendered their version unsupported. The client wished to review the available systems to ensure upgrading to the latest version of the same software was the right choice.

A series business interviews were performed to understand the needs of the asset team and the functions responsible for providing services to the asset, the views of clients central document control centre was key to this process.

A functional requirements specification was created and replayed to the business to ensure all requirements were captured. This specification has been compared against the market leading EDMS, data warehouse and engineering specific data & document solutions.

The engineering specific data & document solutions have been identified as giving significant improvements in functionality and a Request For Proposal (RFP) has been issued to a selection of vendors.

Expected Benefits

The inclusion of engineering specific solutions will enable the client to improve the tag-centric relationship between its engineering documents and data.

The client has the opportunity to realise software portfolio cost savings through choosing a solution already in place elsewhere in the organisation
In addition to leveraging benefit from system capability, the analysis identified potential areas of improvement in processes and procedures.
