Sword Venture’s Innovation Framework

Venture’s work around developing our innovation framework and data science solutions continues apace.

Last week we ran a workshop focusing on the framework needed to successfully develop our capability. This was led by Ian Ozsvald, Principal Data Scientist at Mor Consulting. Ian is well known in the data science world, having set up one of the largest communities, PyData London, now with nearly 10,000 members. Ian has worked with many companies looking to exploit data and data science solutions, from start-ups to larger organisations.

The key message from the day was that data is pivotal to making this work; quantity, quality and accessibility. Every opportunity to deploy data science to solve a business problem needs to be looked at through a data lens. Venture lives and breathes data, so hopefully we’re on top of that one!

Next up – Ian will be leading an internal technical workshop and mini-hackathon in August to work on some of the use cases we’ve high-graded from recent client conversations. Many of these are related to unstructured data quality and accessibility, supporting UK regulatory compliance, the NDR and better internal information systems. We’re looking forward to seeing what we might achieve combining our internal oil and gas domain knowledge and data science experience with external expertise from Ian and his team.

Exciting times ahead – watch this space for more. And if you’re heading to ECIM in September, you’ll get a flavour of the work we’re doing in the Data Science bootcamp we’re running with BP.
